You just got the news.
Maybe it was a diagnosis you didn't see coming. Maybe it was a procedure you've been dreading. Maybe it was a phone call about someone you love — and suddenly everything shifted.
The questions come faster than the answers. The hospital system feels enormous and foreign. And somewhere underneath the fear is a voice asking:
Where do I even begin?
That's exactly where Armed with Direction begins.
This is not about fixing you.
You are not broken. You are not failing. You are a human being facing one of the most complex systems in the world — with little preparation, little guidance, and enormously high stakes.
Nobody hands you a roadmap when they hand you a diagnosis.
But that's exactly what we build together.
Armed with Direction is private, one-on-one coaching designed to do one thing first: find your direction. Not a generic checklist. Not a Google rabbit hole. Not someone else's path.
Yours. Based on your situation, your fears, your gaps, and your goals.
From there, we walk the road together. We fill what's missing. We turn confusion into clarity and fear into preparation. And we don't stop until you are genuinely ready to walk into that hospital armed with knowledge, dressed for battle, and ready to be your own hero.
Session 1: Building Your Patient Toolkit Your personalized command center — built from the ground up for your specific situation. Medical history, medications, insurance, advance directives, your care plan, your support network. Everything organized. Everything accessible. Everything ready.
Session 2: Finding Your Direction Where are you right now — really? And where do you need to go? We map your unique path forward so that every step from here has a purpose.
Session 3: Knowing Your Rights Most patients don't know what they're entitled to. We change that. You will leave this session knowing exactly what you can ask for, demand, and expect — and how to do it without burning bridges.
Session 4: Building Your Team A hospital stay is not a solo sport. We identify who needs to be in your corner, how to communicate with your medical team effectively, and how to make sure the right people are advocating for you.
Session 5: Preparing Your Questions The questions that get real answers. Not vague reassurances — actual information. We prepare them together, prioritize them, and make sure you walk into every appointment ready to get what you need.
Session 6: Medication Safety Medication errors are among the most common — and most preventable — dangers in hospital care. This session gives you the tools to protect yourself and your loved one from the errors that happen every single day.
Session 7: Navigating the Unexpected Hospitals rarely go exactly as planned. This session prepares you for the curveballs — so that when something changes, you're not caught off guard. You're ready.
Session 8: Walking Out Stronger Discharge is not the finish line. Recovery requires advocacy too. We cover post-hospital care, follow-up, what to watch for, and how to keep fighting for the best possible outcome long after you leave.
8 Sessions. 45 Minutes Each. Completely Yours.
This is not a course. Not a seminar. Not a program where you watch videos and hope for the best.
This is you and Val — working through your specific situation, filling your specific gaps, building your specific plan. Every session is focused entirely on you.
Val works with a small number of clients at any given time. Not because of logistics — because this work deserves full attention, and she gives it.
Armed with Direction is for you if:
You or someone you love has just received a diagnosis that will lead to a hospital stay
You feel overwhelmed, underprepared, or simply don't know where to start
You believe that preparation matters — and you're willing to do the work
You want an experienced guide who has genuinely been where you are
This is not for everyone.
Val is intentionally selective. The free 30-minute consultation goes both ways — it's as much about making sure Val can truly serve you as it is about you deciding if this is right. If it's the right fit, you'll both know it.
She is a woman who spent 35+ years navigating the healthcare system — first as a member of her husband Bill's support team, then as his wife, walking into a marriage knowing full well how hard the road ahead would be.
She has been in the waiting rooms. She has caught the errors the professionals missed. She has pushed the emergency button when everyone else was waiting to see what happened next. She has fought for the right outcomes — and she has learned, over decades, exactly what the difference is between a patient who walks in prepared and one who doesn't.
She doesn't coach from a textbook.
She coaches from experience.
Her book, Surviving the Hospital: 6 Secrets Every Patient Should Know, has earned endorsements from physicians, nurses, and fellow patient advocates. Her coaching carries everything the book teaches — and takes it directly into your specific situation.

No pressure. No pitch. Just a conversation — about where you are, what you're facing, and whether Armed with Direction is the right path for you right now.
If it is, you'll walk away from that call with clarity, a next step, and the beginning of a plan.
If it isn't, Val will tell you that too — and point you toward something that is.
You don't have to walk into that hospital afraid, unprepared, or alone.
Let's get you Armed with Direction.
